The Usher board strongly believes that the Lord has called us to be “doorkeepers in the house of God. (Psalm 84:10)” Our mission is to provide comfort and promote the best worship experience possible to every congregant that enters the house of God, in conjunction with all factions of the Church and her members.

Ushers serve an integral role in the worship services by providing warm greetings and distributing bulletins, collecting offerings, and straightening up the sanctuary at the end of the service.  They help people find seating and answer any questions.  The attire is black (October - March) and white (April - September). Regular meetings are held on the 2nd Sunday in the Fellowship Hall, Room 201 following worship service. Usher recognition day is the 3rd Sunday in October. To join the Usher Board, contact Fannie Watermann’

Be a Greeter and be the first welcome worshipers. You will greet our visitors and get to know other members as they enter the Sanctuary for Sunday morning worship. This is a great way to serve without a huge time commitment.

If you are interested in being greeter, contact the Christian Nurture Unit leaders.
Read the current United Voice for a current list of greeters scheduled for the month.

The Jazz Ministry is designed to facilitate spiritual harmony and strengthen the universal bond that unites us all as people of God. This ministry highlights our efforts in Education, Outreach and Worship through our United in Jazz Concert Series in the fall and spring. The Charlotte Community has embraced our United in Jazz Concert Series through sellout attendance. Each performer puts on a fantastic show and we provide a delicious meal. If you are interested in joining this ministry, contact Jane R. Stratford. Click here (link to Events) for information about current United in Jazz concerts.

First United's newly revised Communications & Technology Team, aka "CTT", is working towards improving all levels of communication both inside and outside of the church. A special form has been designed for all ministries of the church to request communication and publicity for upcoming projects and events. The form includes space for you to create a 'press release' announcement which will be used for all of the various outlets. Ministries may also submit any flyers or other forms of publicity to be included. Place completed forms in the CTT mailbox or Email to Elder Tamara Williams at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Requirements for communications will be as follows:
EXTERNAL: A 3-4 week deadline for communication and publicity to media outlets, Church Calling Posts, Presbytery, other churches, etc.
INTERNAL: A 2-week deadline for communications in the Church Bulletin, United Voice, FUPC Website, Facebook, by Email, bulletin boards, etc.

At First United, we praise God and minister to our congregation in different artistical ways such as dance, song and playing instruments. You do not have to be a musician to join any of these ministries.
