In the sacrament of baptism for infants, parents affirm their responsibility to provide for the spiritual needs of their children in the home. The congregation vows to provide through the church the adequate nurture for all our children, therefore, is an important occasion for families and church alike. Parents are asked to attend a session with the pastor prior to the child's Baptism.
Baptisms are normally held during Sunday morning service. We encourage members to call the church office to schedule infant baptisms. Baptisms for other ages may be arranged as well, including baptisms for adults.
At First United, anyone who has been baptized is welcome to participate in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. Communion is one of two sacraments in the Presbyterian Church. It is a sign and seal of God’s saving grace and a celebration of the incarnation. Through communion, we believe that Christ’s risen power is present among us. The sacrament of communion is celebrated the 1st Sunday of each month.
Elders serve communion to the congregation. Communion is also taken periodically to the sick and shut-in members who are unable to attend worship.
The wedding ceremony is a significant event for the bride and groom and their families as well as a service of worship in which the church celebrates marriage as a gift of God. As such, it is the responsibility of the Session of the Church to ensure that wedding services are conducted in a manner appropriate to the worship of God.
